The Ho-Chunk is a Native American tribe with a rich history dating back over 10,000 years. Discover the rich heritage, resilience, and lasting presence of the Ho-Chunk Nation in Illinois' history and culture.

Presented by - Gerald Savage, White Winnebago

Gerald, formally known as Ho-Chunk Ska Ga (White Winnebago), will share insights on the tribe’s history, his family's return to Illinois, residential schools, modern Native life, tribal settlements, and how he received his Chief’s bonnet.

Gerald’s wife, Stands on a Cloud, and his grandparents were Chief Walks with the Wind. They deeply influenced his knowledge of traditional customs. Today, he continues their legacy by educating others about Ho-Chunk culture and their enduring presence in Illinois.
