Enjoy a family-friendly musical journey through West Africa with Sean Gaskell and the enchanting sounds of the 21-string kora, a West African harp.

More about the Kora

The kora is known for its beautiful, harp-like sound and is often used to accompany storytelling, songs, and oral histories by griots (traditional musicians and storytellers) in countries like Mali, Senegal, Gambia, and Guinea.

The kora is made from a large calabash gourd cut in half and covered with cowhide, creating a resonating chamber. It’s played by plucking the strings with the thumbs and forefingers of both hands.
