Program Description

Event Details

Find out what plants do during their long winter rest! Join a Master Gardener to learn why the snow and cold are some of native plants' favorite kinds of weather and how they use the winter season to prepare for their spring showcase. Afterward, you will get to plant some native seeds and take them home!

Why Garden?

Gardening has so many benefits! You can discuss many scientific concepts with your kids when planting and tending to a garden. When children participate in gardening, the fruits and vegetables they are inspired to eat will undoubtedly have a positive effect on their bodies. But the act of gardening itself can also promote a healthy body. Furthermore, studies show that when children have contact with soil during activities like digging and planting, they have improved moods, better learning experiences, and decreased anxiety. Most importantly, the self-esteem a child gets from eating a perfect cucumber that he grew himself is priceless.
